Oh My We Have to go to Back to 1980

It was almost exactly the year 1980 when things starting getting bad fast. This was after the accident and after Charls forgot his name ever was Charls. Divorce was rampant, kids ran amuck. He was on his way to college. His brother, eight years younger, was on his way to a different kind of life. In 2006 a colleague told him — it was 1980 when things started going downhill fast. He didn’t say around that time or ‘in the eighties’, but oddly enough simply 1980. In ‘81 Golem came home to a block of single-parent homes. When he left four years earlier, there were kids all around in two-parent homes. They were simply gone. His mother told him one of the kids tried to rape a mother down the block. Another kid went to his father’s new home and threw rocks through the windows on occasion. Many were selling drugs. Was a virus released in ’80? Had Plan B been initiated a little early?
