let's take a quick look at K-8:
i say no tech in the classroom. i say the three r's, that's all.
why? i went to school before the cell phone came along. i did just fine. all of it can be taught without the tech. all of the cost of it can be eliminated.
so some will say the children will be deprived. excuse me, isn't the tech all around us? do we not learn at home. is it necessary to celebrate Christmas at school as if it were some sort of learning experience.
okay, i know there are dysfunctional families with no internet access. one could say the only way they can use the net is at school. well, there are piss poor people in thailand, they go to an internet cafe.
what i mean to say is that the net is something people can absorb naturally. i might suggest that wireless service be made available, but that is about it.
what i am really trying to say is that if a kid learns to read they can teach themselves. that is why i say concentrate on reading etc. they will find a way to use the net.
i realise that this sounds a bit harsh.
i used the shit out of a computer and multimedia in a high school for a year. i had one of the most high-tech classrooms on the planet, but on retrospect, for teaching ESL i think a good textbook is enough.
